Burry Port

After a good run of wins the Burry Port match was something of a wake up call. Although the tackling was good and the scrum worked really well for the first time this season there were far too many basic mistakes. Some of the great play that was on show in previous matches was totally missing. Players failed to clear out at the ruck allowing Burry to slow the ball down and while the weather was against free flowing back play, we kicked the ball away more in this match than in all of the games up to now.
This was a closely contested game and the final score was a bit harsh on the Quins. A disallowed try at the end would have been a deserved reward for the team effort all through the match.

The players all showed great heart and commitment throughout which was fantastic to see.

On Saturday 19 th December we are bag packing at Morrisons Carmarthen. This is a full day of fundraising and we need all the squad present in your allocated times for 2 hour slots. We need 4 parents to be present during the sessions to supervise and support the packing. The Boys will be wearing their Quins shirts and representing the Quins therefore we have a code of conduct and rules to agree with the supermarket.

Bag packing is the easiest and most profitable way to do Fundraising and we can fill our Buckets with cash for our 2016 Tour .Please check the slots and if you need to change please let me now. I need confirmation by the 1st December please  via text on 07765035441

This bag packing event will be repeated on Saturday 9th January as I have been unable to secure any supermarket at Christmas time, we will use the same time table unless there are any requests

Thirdly we will have a family night in Indian restaurant in Carmarthen in February. Date to be agreed soon. We order set menu per head, bring family and friends, any they donate percentage to our charity, we will do raffle etc and have a fun night.
Any other ideas for a fundraising event would be great. we would like the Boys to think of an event that they could get sponsors for so coaches please have a team talk and think of an event for us please

I hope this will be an enthusiastic drive to getting money for the boys to go on tour.
Our initial aim is to raise £2000 - C’mon Quins we can do this !!
I need a volunteer for a treasurer for the savings so please come forward and offer as we need to open an account for the money .

Many thanks for your continued support. Janet Millward & the fundraising Team . "

Next Game

Well ........we're all disappointed not to play against St Clears, but the pitches must have been pretty wet.

Training at Abergwili on Wednesday as usual. It's a home match against Burry Port next Sunday. Not quite the level of rivalry as St Clears, but a game is a game!.

The attendance for training has been really good this year, so lets keep it up, even though we are entering the seaon of cancellations. The last training session looked really good with coaches for forwards and backs. The boys looked as if they were enjoying every moment. The forwards in particular had a great learning experience. Lots to work on, but this has the makings of a fantastic team

Ponty at Home

What a difference a week makes, glorious sunshine last week turned grey and windy for todays match. Still at least the rain waited untill we had finished.
A tough game with the Pont's enormous No8 causing problems throughout. We did score a gem of a try in the first half, but the wind made handling difficult and we had to tough out some difficult periods with some good kicking and stubborn defence. Well done to the players who filled the gaps in the opposition team, you were their best players! It was also good to see the forwards carry the ball on occasions, don't let the backs have all the glory!
It was great to see a maximum turnout of possible players, we really need this sort of commitment to have
 a successful season.

Fixture List

I'm sure that this will suffer quite a few changes during the season.
The question marks are against games that probably won't happen, but we'll try to make alternative arrangements.

Injuries and Concussions

We've been a bit unlucky with injuries so far this season, so maybe we need discuss what happens when a player is down.
I know we have a few qualified first aiders among the coaches and the parents, so we should be covered for minor bumps.
There is a document on the WRU site about concussion, it's worth a look considering the number of head injuries we've had ( the players will enjoy the bit about no school in the first week!)
Here is the link.....

I think that as parents we really need to be confident in saying that our son isn't fit to play, even if the team are struggling for numbers. All the coaches understand that the players wellbeing must come first.
I'll be asking whether the club has any protocols in place regarding injuries, until then we must carry on using our common sense.

Next Game, 8 November

According to the list it's Llandeilo at home, I'll text out KO times when I have them confirmed.

Dunvant

Glorious weather and a win....who could ask for more. 16 Players available and 16 there for the game, thanks to you all for making the effort. Not the easiest pitch to find but worth the effort.
Going into the unknown like that seems to be good for the team. It was another great display of running and passing, its a simple game when you do the basics right. Best bits of the game were the support play...... it looked like we had more players than them at some points, and some really intelligent kicking. Although Dunvant lost heart in the second half, scoring 50 against them was a great result.
