Next game is v The Athletic, at home KO at 11 am. Should be interesting with no training and no matches for a while. Maybe the rest will do us good!

Burry Port

After a good run of wins the Burry Port match was something of a wake up call. Although the tackling was good and the scrum worked really well for the first time this season there were far too many basic mistakes. Some of the great play that was on show in previous matches was totally missing. Players failed to clear out at the ruck allowing Burry to slow the ball down and while the weather was against free flowing back play, we kicked the ball away more in this match than in all of the games up to now.
This was a closely contested game and the final score was a bit harsh on the Quins. A disallowed try at the end would have been a deserved reward for the team effort all through the match.

The players all showed great heart and commitment throughout which was fantastic to see.

Tuesday 17 November 2015

Next match Burry Port Home

Next match is Burry Port at home. K.O. is at 10.00 be there for 9.20 for a warm up.
The U13 are playing at the same time so we need to get there early to bag the pitch with lines (if the match is on)
See you there.

This bag packing event will be repeated on Saturday 9th January as I have been unable to secure any supermarket at Christmas time, we will use the same time table unless there are any requests

Thirdly we will have a family night in Indian restaurant in Carmarthen in February. Date to be agreed soon. We order set menu per head, bring family and friends, any they donate percentage to our charity, we will do raffle etc and have a fun night.
Any other ideas for a fundraising event would be great. we would like the Boys to think of an event that they could get sponsors for so coaches please have a team talk and think of an event for us please

I hope this will be an enthusiastic drive to getting money for the boys to go on tour.
Our initial aim is to raise £2000 - C’mon Quins we can do this !!
I need a volunteer for a treasurer for the savings so please come forward and offer as we need to open an account for the money .

Many thanks for your continued support. Janet Millward & the fundraising Team . "

Next Game

Well ........we're all disappointed not to play against St Clears, but the pitches must have been pretty wet.

Training at Abergwili on Wednesday as usual. It's a home match against Burry Port next Sunday. Not quite the level of rivalry as St Clears, but a game is a game!.

The attendance for training has been really good this year, so lets keep it up, even though we are entering the seaon of cancellations. The last training session looked really good with coaches for forwards and backs. The boys looked as if they were enjoying every moment. The forwards in particular had a great learning experience. Lots to work on, but this has the makings of a fantastic team

Sunday 8 November 2015

Ponty at Home

What a difference a week makes, glorious sunshine last week turned grey and windy for todays match. Still at least the rain waited untill we had finished.
A tough game with the Pont's enormous No8 causing problems throughout. We did score a gem of a try in the first half, but the wind made handling difficult and we had to tough out some difficult periods with some good kicking and stubborn defence. Well done to the players who filled the gaps in the opposition team, you were their best players! It was also good to see the forwards carry the ball on occasions, don't let the backs have all the glory!
It was great to see a maximum turnout of possible players, we really need this sort of commitment to have
 a successful season.

Fixture List

I'm sure that this will suffer quite a few changes during the season.
The question marks are against games that probably won't happen, but we'll try to make alternative arrangements.

Tuesday 3 November 2015

Injuries and Concussions

We've been a bit unlucky with injuries so far this season, so maybe we need discuss what happens when a player is down.
I know we have a few qualified first aiders among the coaches and the parents, so we should be covered for minor bumps.
There is a document on the WRU site about concussion, it's worth a look considering the number of head injuries we've had ( the players will enjoy the bit about no school in the first week!)
Here is the link.....

http://www.wru.co.uk/downloads/WRUConcussionGuidanceEnglish.pdf

I think that as parents we really need to be confident in saying that our son isn't fit to play, even if the team are struggling for numbers. All the coaches understand that the players wellbeing must come first.
I'll be asking whether the club has any protocols in place regarding injuries, until then we must carry on using our common sense.

Next Game, 8 November

According to the list it's Llandeilo at home, I'll text out KO times when I have them confirmed.

Dunvant

Glorious weather and a win....who could ask for more. 16 Players available and 16 there for the game, thanks to you all for making the effort. Not the easiest pitch to find but worth the effort.
Going into the unknown like that seems to be good for the team. It was another great display of running and passing, its a simple game when you do the basics right. Best bits of the game were the support play...... it looked like we had more players than them at some points, and some really intelligent kicking. Although Dunvant lost heart in the second half, scoring 50 against them was a great result.

Next Game

Next game is Dunvant RFC away, another long trek, but it should be an interesting match. The postcode for the club and pitch is SA2 7RU and the address is
The Clubhouse
Broadacre
Killay
Swansea
Kick Off is at 10.30. Be there for 9.45ish please.

Pembroke

Firstly a big thanks to all the players and their parents today. Out of 18 fit players we had 18 in Pembroke for the game....and what a game, fast paced, expansive rugby that put a smile on the faces of the capacity crowd in the stand! Well maybe not quite capacity, but the team did play some fantastic rugby. In contrast to Pembroke everyone in the 18 played an important role in the match.
Bertie may have found a way of losing a few grams to make him faster, but I don't think it's going to be a popular modification.

Most of the team thought it was an improvement
well done for carrying on Bertie.

The game also provides us with a comedy moment, once Teilo starts tackling there's no stopping him!
oops!
Even though it was a bit of a trek, especially getting out of Pembroke, it was worth it to see the team continue to improve.
I think you can add comments to the blog, all feedback welcome (I think)

K.O.time change

Update on Sunday... the match kicks off at 10-30 now, an early start! be there for 9-45 please. Let me know (text ) if you can't make it or need a lift.
Hoping for a good turn out again. Great atmosphere this season, lets keep it going.

Tour Fund Raising

Jan (Millward) has sorted out a couple of dates for bag packing.  They are Saturday 19 Dec and 9th January, were looking for the boys to do 2 hrs each and we will need adult supervision as well. We shall publish a rota and if we need to change we will, we just need everyone to take part!
Stuff like this can really help to keep the team spirit going through  bad weather, cancelled matches etc, and it can be a bit of fun as well!

Next Fixture

Next fixture is Pembroke Away...bit of a long trip this one! K.O. is at 11.30 so meet at 10.45 please.
The Postcode is SA71 4AY and it looks as if the pitches are near the clubhouse.
If anyone needs a lift let me know(by text) and we'll try to sort it out.

Training

Training will be on Wednesdays until we have to go to the barn/astroturf. This is because Andrew has found another coach who can only make Wednesdays. With two coaches they should be twice as good!
The coaches have been a bit unlucky with  legs! Wyn with his op and Steff with his calf injury.
We've had great turnouts for training so far...lets keep it going!

Training at Pendine
